Last day, wiped out, AWP style.

Janet and Deb, writers at large.

Lopate's really pretty wife and the genius little mushroom, Cynthia Ozick.

Pensive mushroom.

Association for Wack People

We can't go anywhere.

Brian's a baby bird.

I'm a baby bird, too.

Brian is staying with the nuns in the middle of Chelsea. Three Catholics and a Jew, singing Chorus Line in the lobby of a convent.

The convent had a tribute to clowns. Did you get that? Clowns. This place = creep(y) central.

Is Steven Cramer trying to make out with John Irving at this very second?

AWP believes in free drinnks...

and dancing. there's actually dancing!

It's so good to host a tourist because I forget how funny it is that Jerry gave his eyeballs away. "Right now he's a corpse with two gaping holes in his head," says Abbey.

Please, please, please move here, Abbey. You are cracking me up.

another book review and an homage to canceled television

"As your brother, I will be relentless until you tell me what's going on." Wonderfalls is a perfect show. Riva is a genius for finding this picture.

my newest review (this is my favorite one that I've written so far.)

sheltered from the dip

At one of Riva's workplaces, the Museum of Science, I learned that not everyone grows up in a shopping mall. First time adult Dippin' Dots encounters can be so precarious. Luckily, this time was a success.

I'm enjoying Pastoralia by George Saunders, but sometimes the metaphors cast a shadow over my brain and I lose track of the bigger picture.

Joseph and I watched Bridge to Terabithia on the bus. Disney is capable of (and follows through with) ruining everything.

I taught my English short story class The Swimmer by Cheever today, and my favorite student said the main character was retarded. I keep trying to get her to articulate herself without her single-word vocabulary. So far, no luck.

It's good to be home.

maybe a gold sparkly bracelet can fix this

Money can't buy happiness, but if it could, it would be a $9.50 H&M bracelet.

My new review is here.

Most important news of the day: Cornelius is alive and in the company of my loving parents.

on the third day:

Early morning at Simon's.

Riva visits Lesley.

Dainty.

Even though I want to be her, Tavi insisted that I stop with the pictures. Fine, whatever Tavi wants.

There is nothing better than hot cocoa with my bff.

night two of the res: riva and ellen in boston!

so happy to see my friends tonight.

riva showed off her luscious (perhaps) tushy and ellen showed off her um, dried figs.

they pretend to be annoyed that i'm always taking pictures until it's portrait hour; then you can't tear them away.

not remembering what was going through our minds (with riva, i have omniscient point of view rights). i think it had to do with holding still since we weren't using a flash. no idea.

two jews and a china-woman, i can't think of anything hotter. the lighting reminds me of mary tyler moore. maybe it's just our sweaters.

We're gonna make it after all.

First Night Together Again

Back to school. Last residency. Drinking, reading, and mentor love.

I set my mentors loose with my camera.

For some reason, both Michael and Brian wanted to share perverted adventures with me.

A terribly flattering portrait of Alex, Katie, me, and Michael

The homegirls.
